Sorority myth does not hinder housing at University of Wisconsin – River Falls or anywhere else

This is one of the biggest Greek urban legends out there and It’s one of the most persistent and annoying ones. “We can’t have sorority houses in our town because they passed a law that says that no more than (insert number) unrelated women can live in the same house because it would be considered a brothel.”

People who study urban myths say that this is one of the most persistent, and they’ve identified at least 100 campuses where it is fully accepted as the truth.

It’s bullshit. I don’t care who told you, it’s not true. There is no such law in any municipality in the country. Read here if you don’t believe me.

A legend circulating around UW-River Falls says that the sororities on campus are not allowed to have houses for their chapters due to a City of River Falls ordinance.

This, however, is a myth, according to the future River Falls City Administrator Scot E. Simpson. As the myth states, no more than eight women can live in a house at one time in the City of River Falls without it being considered a brothel.

Alpha Epsilon Pi Cancer Awareness Banner Vandalized at Northwestern University

Alpha Epsilon Pi is an international Jewish fraternity.  Where the vandals anti-semitic? anti-greek? or just hate people with cancer?

A banner advertising an event for an NU fraternity has been ripped down and burned, said Adam Janet, president of Alpha Epsilon Pi.

The banner advertised AEPi’s annual spring philanthropy, Dog Days, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.

“It was on the ground and torn in two,” the Weinberg sophomore said. “When we examined it further, we saw that the edges had been burned.”

Janet filed a police report Friday afternoon.

“I think it’s clear that our banner was targeted,” he said.

Zeta Tau Alpha at Longwood University Forced to Shut Down

Alpha Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority closed by their national amidst allegations of underage drinking and hazing and will not be able to come back till 2011

A Longwood University sorority is having to shut its doors after allegations of hazing and underage drinking. This isn’t the first time the Zeta Tau Alpha chapter has been in trouble this year, in fact they had just gotten off probation, and less than a month later their national council voted to shut them down.
